Signed Photograph
2 pages | SMC 332

Quick Reference

  • Theodor Herzl

    Background

A wonderful photo, signed on the verso with a reference to the day Herzl spent in Jerusalem, having traveled there to meet Wilhelm II – that the Kaiser might persuade his ally, the Turkish Sultan, to allow for a creation of a “German protectorate” for Jewry, in then Turkish-controlled Palestine.

Signed Photo, being a cabinet photo by Vienna’s J. Loewy, inscribed, in

German, on the verso to “the Marx Family”, in commemoration of his days in Jerusalem, no place, November 3, 1898.

Used with permission of Shapell Legacy Partnership 2.
