Background
Gearing up for one of the great events of the Gilded Age – the World’s Columbian Exposition, celebrating the 400th anniversary of Columbus’ discovery of America - Harrison authorizes the Seal of the United States to be affixed to a document entitled "The administration of the United States Government at the beginning of the four hundredth anniversary of the discovery of America." The Exposition, like the Columbian State paper voted by Congress, was intended to capture the essence of the America which would spearhead the new – “the American” - century.
Document Signed, as President, partially printed and accomplished in manuscript, 1 page, quarto, Washington, July 29. 1892.
