Academic Research & The Shapell Roster Of Jewish Soldiers In The American Civil War
The Shapell Manuscript Foundation is pleased to see the monumental research of the Shapell Roster of Jewish Soldiers in the Civil War reach a wider audience, most recently the academic community of the Southern Jewish Historical Society. Roster researchers Adrienne DeArmas, Caitlin Winkler, and Alexandra Apito presented at the Southern Jewish Historical Society’s recent annual conference, entitled Home and Belonging in the Jewish South, and an article about the Roster’s methodology, was featured in the “Primary Sources” section of the peer-reviewed journal, Southern Jewish History. A recent extensively researched article by Professor Paul Finkelman and Candance Jackson Gray in the American Jewish Archives Journal referenced the Shapell Roster as part of a wider examination of Texas’s first U.S. Representative.
