The Shapell Manuscript Collection houses extensive holdings of original documents of historic importance and is one of the most unique in private hands.
Rich in Lincolniana, the Civil war, Twainiana, and Custeriana, it also focuses on important literary letters, and features an array of letters and manuscripts documenting major events, disasters, and inventions that have helped shape American history and changed the world. The Collections’ particular strength, however, is in its presidential material, with an emphasis on the human aspect of this historic office, and includes many well-known presidential letters and manuscripts rarely seen by the public.
The Collection is also proud of it's 19th and 20th century manuscript material relating to American Jewry, the Holy Land and Zionism, and contains, in addition, a major Albert Einstein archive.
New items from the Collection are continually being added to the website and we invite you to check back often.
